Five Fabulous Firefox Extensions

First of all, if you’re not using Firefox, you should be. It’s faster, more secure, and just generally better (hard to quantify, but the base features alone make it wonderful). However, with the addition of some handy dandy extensions it becomes a truly beautiful browser. Thus, this is my reasonably brief compilation of extensions that make my browsing more efficent.

  • Adblock – Does precisely what it says. However, the perk is that you can customize what ads are blocked (yes, this means you have to do it manually). Yet, using the wildcard feature it’s easy to block every ad coming from www. website.com/ads /*. After 2 months of use, I rarely see ads anymore. Link

  • IE Tab – For those nefarious fools who don’t like to support Firefox, this allows you to open that webpage in IE within Firefox. Link

  • BugMeNot – “BugMeNot.com was created as a mechanism to quickly bypass the login of web sites that require compulsory registration and/or the collection of personal/demographic information” Essentially, it will automatically log you in to the New York Times, Washington Post, etc, without the hassle of setting up an account. Link

  • Image Zoom – Zoom in/out on an image that is part of a website (without downloading it or changing the page itself in anyway). It’s quite handy for grabbing a closer look at things. Link

  • Tab Mix Plus – A slew of options for your tabs, unless you’re one of those weird people that only uses one or two at a time (how do you function?). My favorite functions are forcing windows to open in new tabs rather than new windows, saving your sessions so even if your computer crashes you can still pick up right where you left off, and adding a loading bar to each tab to show you when it’s done. Thar they be. Give ‘em a try. They'll make your life better.

---Update---

There are two more extensions I would be remiss if I didn't mention on here:

  • Forecast Fox - It tells you what type of weather you would be experiencing if you happned to go outside for some strange reason. It will display the current conditions, an extended forcast, and an animated radar image of the area (the latter is the reason that I installed this particular plugin). Link

  • Linkifier – it converts plain text links into fully clickable ones. This is not like other extensions that allow you to open the link when you highlight it, this actually changes plain-text links into normal HTML style ones. Link
Also, one has been promoted from Elliot's suggestions to my list of Fabulous Firefox Extensions
  • PDF Download: lets you choose whether you want to view the PDF, download (save) it, view it as HTML, or do nothing (if you didn't realize a link was an annoying PDF). Link

Bull....fight

At least two people are being treated in hospital in Mexico City after a bull leapt into a crowd during a bullfight.

The half-ton bull - named Pajarito or Little Bird - breached the safety barrier and landed on the fans.

The rampage ended when a fight participant entered the stand and killed the animal with his sword.

Throwing spears at a half ton, irritable animal with horns, what could possibly go wrong? Finally something did.

I'm trying to think of a word. I think it's... karma.

Massive Succinct Update

Oddly enough, there hasn't been much in the way of blog worthy events in my life o're the past few weeks. I'll try to summarize and perhaps expand upon a few items later on
  • My brother and associated kin visited for a week.
    • My brother got me hooked using RSSOwl for the reading of news (like Digg, which also rocks my socks). It seems to take me 4 times as much time now because I read so many different sites on a continuous basis now.
  • I got an ipod nano for Christmas, and what a glorious piece of technology it is (it gets 5/5 Chad Stars of Awesomeness).
  • My car got totaled (my poor baby) when a 87 year old woman turned left in front of me. I got whiplash too. I'm still healing, it's just loads of fun.
    • According to the woman I was driving a "truck". Being that she "never saw me" either.
    • As a result of the previous incident, I've made it a goal in life to get old people off the roads.
    • As a result of the previous item (and combined with the lack of snow), I've skiied once this year. Now that's what I call seasonal depression.
    • I never realized how many of my activities (walking, fencing, skiing, sitting at my computer) were directly tied to my back, neck, and ankle. It makes me sad, bored, and bitter.
  • I'm reconsidering the whole Physics thing since taking a few computer classes and doing some freelance type programming. We'll see.
  • I'm madly in love with Hoss's Steakhouse and Lynn.
